Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy

Miriam is professionally trained in both Cannabis- and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. She offers this work within a legal and ethically grounded clinical framework, integrating the same somatic-relational approach that clients experience in her non-medicine (i.e., ordinary states of consciousness) therapy sessions.

“good psychedelic therapy = good therapy + the right psychedelic + the right dose”

—Dr. Hillary McBride

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an approach to treatment that works with the two medicines of relationship and ketamine in combination.  While the medicine of ketamine increases our openness and capacity to learn and make new connections, the medicine of therapeutic relationship fosters new meaningful experiences that can become more deeply encoded.

Ketamine, an anesthetic common in hospitals around the world, is a legal, safe and effective medicine used to treat a variety of conditions. A growing body of research tells us that when used alongside therapy and in the correct doses, ketamine can be effective for treatment-resistant conditions, including:

  • Addiction & Substance Use

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Disordered Eating

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

  • Post Traumatic Stress

  • Chronic Pain & Chronic Stress

While Miriam takes on the relational psychotherapy portion of the experience, a medical team supports with determining eligibility and prescribing, administering and monitoring clients during their medicine session.

Miriam works with eligible clients in preparation for KAP, meets them for individual medicine sessions at Upstream Health, and accompanies them through integration therapy in the weeks and months that follow. The short-term changes in a person’s state of consciousness produced by ketamine, when combined with the right therapy in the right setting, can become an opportunity to process strong emotions and imprints that might otherwise be too painful or challenging to access. In the days and weeks that follow a medicine session, Miriam supports clients in drawing insights from their psychedelic experience and integrating these into their lives in positive and meaningful ways.
